1. Purpose
This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all members, volunteers, committee members, contractors and representatives (“Members”) of Kyneton District Business & Tourism Association Inc.. It aims to ensure that all activities are conducted ethically, respectfully, and in the best interests of the organisation, its members, and the broader Kyneton community.
2. Guiding Principles
Members will uphold and promote the following principles:
Integrity: Act honestly, fairly, and transparently in all dealings.
Respect: Treat others with courtesy, dignity, and fairness, valuing diversity of opinion and background.
Collaboration: Support a culture of cooperation and shared purpose to advance business and tourism in Kyneton and the Macedon Ranges region.
Accountability: Take responsibility for actions and decisions, and use association resources prudently.
Community Focus: Prioritise the long-term prosperity, sustainability, and reputation of Kyneton as a thriving place to live, work and visit.
3. Member Conduct
Members must:
Conduct themselves professionally and in a manner that enhances the reputation of Business Kyneton.
Support Business Kyneton’s objectives and abide by its Constitution, policies, and lawful directions of the Committee.
Communicate respectfully with fellow members, committee representatives, local businesses, and the public.
Avoid any form of harassment, discrimination, bullying, or intimidating behaviour.
Protect the confidentiality of sensitive information shared within the organisation.
Avoid conflicts of interest, and where they arise, declare them immediately to the Committee.
Not use their membership for personal or political advantage inconsistent with the association’s purpose.
Represent the association in a positive, inclusive and professional manner at all times.
4. Committee and Leadership Responsibilities
Committee members and office bearers have a higher duty to:
Act in good faith and in the best interests of the association.
Make decisions collectively, free from self-interest or external influence.
Maintain confidentiality of committee discussions.
Disclose and manage conflicts of interest in accordance with governance policy.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, including financial and reporting obligations under Victorian incorporated association legislation.
5. Use of Media and Communications
Members should seek prior approval before making public statements on behalf of Business Kyneton.
Online and social media engagement must reflect respect, professionalism, and accuracy.
Misuse of Business Kyneton’s logo, name, or branding for personal gain is prohibited.
6. Breaches and Complaints
Alleged breaches of this Code will be addressed promptly and fairly by the Committee or a delegated subcommittee.
Members may be asked to respond to concerns or participate in mediation.
Disciplinary actions may include a warning, suspension, or termination of membership, consistent with the Constitution and relevant laws.
7. Review and Continuous Improvement
This Code will be reviewed every two years or as required to ensure its relevance to evolving standards of community, business and tourism governance.
8. Acknowledgment
All members agree to abide by this Code of Conduct as a condition of membership and participation in Business Kyneton activities.
