Approved by: Business Kyneton
Effective Date: 17th October 2025
Review Date: 17th October 2027
1. Purpose
These guidelines outline how members, volunteers, committee members and representatives (“Members”) of Business Kyneton Inc. should engage on social media to uphold the reputation, values, and integrity of the organisation.
They apply to all official Business Kyneton social media accounts and to any personal use that could reasonably be associated with the organisation.
2. Guiding Principles
Members using social media should:
Communicate professionally, respectfully, and accurately.
Protect the reputation and credibility of Business Kyneton.
Remain non-partisan, avoiding posts or comments that could be perceived as political or divisive.
Uphold transparency, integrity, and community spirit consistent with Business Kyneton’s mission.
3. Official Social Media Use
Only authorised representatives may post on or manage official Business Kyneton social media accounts.
All posts should reflect the organisation’s purpose — promoting local business, tourism, community events, and positive regional outcomes.
Content must be factual, inclusive, and respectful of diverse opinions.
Any sponsored, partnered, or collaborative posts must be clearly disclosed and pre-approved by the Committee or delegated officer.
The official accounts must not:
Endorse or oppose political candidates, parties, or ballot measures.
Promote or criticise religious, ideological, or controversial causes.
Share confidential or internal association matters.
Engage in arguments, trolling, or personal commentary.
4. Personal Social Media Use
When using personal social media:
Members are free to express personal views, but must not imply they represent Business Kyneton unless authorised.
Avoid posting comments, images, or content that could bring the association into disrepute.
Do not disclose confidential or sensitive organisational information.
Avoid expressing political opinions or promoting businesses or issues where there may be a conflict of interest with the association’s objectives.
If referencing Business Kyneton, make clear statements such as: “Opinions expressed are my own, not those of Business Kyneton.”
5. Handling Issues and Feedback
Concerns or complaints about posts or online behaviour should be directed confidentially to the Committee.
If errors occur on official channels, they should be corrected promptly and transparently.
Members should avoid engaging in online disputes; where necessary, refer matters to the Committee for formal response.
6. Breaches and Consequences
Breaches of these guidelines may lead to:
A formal warning or request for content removal.
Suspension or removal of social media access.
Disciplinary action under the association’s Code of Conduct or Constitution.
7. Review and Continuous Improvement
These guidelines will be reviewed every two years, or sooner if needed, to reflect evolving social media practices and community expectations.
8. Acknowledgment
All members agree to abide by these Social Media Guidelines as a condition of membership and participation in Business Kyneton activities.
